I've been singing semi professionally for over 20 years here in the uk and abroad and turned professional 4 years ago. Myheart has always been in country music although I have fronted many a rock and blues band and still perform covers of various genres when gigging as well as my own songs.
My last band, The Lynne Butler Band, was a six piece Bluegrass band based here in the UK for which I was honoured to be the lead vocalist and whose memebers included Gary and Sherryl Payne and Richard Holland - well known musicians on the European bluegrass circuit. They were key in introducing me to Bluegrass music as up to that point I hadn't really listened to it much but was very soon hooked.
Bringing the country influence into the band we ended up with a slightly different sound/approach to others on the circuit but it worked and now I have taken it one step further and like to dabble with putting bluegrass instrumentation to other 'genres'. Quite a few people have commented that I put 'kooky' into bluegrass music and I have to say I'm very flattered - because I'll be the first to admit that I am a little kooky and have never quite moulded to the 'norm' in anything throughout my life ...and of which I am immensly proud although it has exasberated my mother on quite a few occassions. Now however, she looks upon my non conforming as a positive.. ha!
In the last 18 months I have written and produced 3 albums. The third one 'Talk to the Face' will be released at the end of February 2008 and is a blend of lighthearted, humourous songs and soulfull ballads. The previous two 'A Little Country, A Little Bluegrass and a Whole Lot of Me' and 'Music Makers Bluegrass Style' have been received very well and the former has received quite a bit of airplay particularly on internet radio stations around the world. 'Music Makers Bluegrass Style' is a children's cd whereby children's songs, originals and covers, have been put to bluegrass instrumentation - a first of it's kind here in the uk.
'Music Makers' is the name of the pre-school music groups that I hold on a weekly basis allowing children to build confidence and to learn to express themselves through music and dance and a whole load of instruments. They even get to do the limbo - as do the parents - a great fun time for all.
I would like to mention at this point that four songs from the albums have been co-written with a friend of mine, Peter Fallowell and they are 'Thinking 'bout Love, Secret Love, Goodbye, So Long and Cruel Cruel Woman'. Thanks Peter for being such a star.
